It’s not easy to stand out amongst a crowd of 13,000 or yellow cabs, but six taxi drivers have managed to do so by way of low brow luxury vehicles. The New York Times reports on an “elite club of cabbies” who wouldn’t be caught dead driving a Crown Victoria and have decided to go with Lexus hybrids instead. They’re truly fond of their vehicles since they offer some semblance of “individuality,” but that could all come to screeching halt in a few years when the TLC implements its Taxi of Tomorrow program, unless the city grandfathers them in. Otherwise, it’s back to differentiating themselves using bumper stickers.
