There’s no end in sight when it comes to the city’s war on bikes. Transportation Nation reports that the NYPD is now giving tickets to cyclists who don’t use bike lanes. Yup, you read that right. Earlier today, cops posted up on Lafayette and proceeded to issue citations to those seen riding in the street. Is that even legal?

Although state law requires cyclists to utilize the lanes whenever possible, it also grants them the right to use discretion and lists several instances in which they may divert to the roadway instead. This latest round of egregious enforcement comes on the heels of another hit piece from a tabloid that is clearly suffering from split personality disorder when it comes to deciding whether cyclists are using the lanes or not.
