Congratulations of sorts to the men and women of the New York City Police Department. Based on their latest figures (PDF doc), they have have conducted a staggering amount of ‘stop and frisk’ searches (183,326) in the first few months of 2011, 88 percent of which “resulted in neither an arrest nor a summons” and 84 percent of whom were black and Latino according to the NYCLU. At this rate, they’re almost guaranteed to beat last year’s all-time-high (601,055) and violate a record number of people’s rights.
