Before Albany officially changes the law and thoroughly reduces the amount of low level pot busts by the NYPD, which makes up a majority of their overall arrests, cops are continuing their spree. NY1 reports the disappointing news: “Officials said Wednesday that the number of people arrested for the drug has jumped about 20 percent from where it was this time last year, and the city is on track to reach a record 60,000 arrests in 2011.” Not surprisingly, the NYPD says those figures are wrong, countering that there’s only been an uptick of about 12 percent. Sigh!

Just another quack top cop applying his own personal agenda to who is arrested for what. What next, 17 year olds in possession of cigarettes, jaywalking, graduation tassle hanging from your rearview mirror?
It's not just NYPD top brass that are to blame for this. The mayor's office has consistently been of the opinion that all behavior in NYC should now be regulated by Nanny Moneybags and his minions. What's most disheartening is that many city residents seem to applaud this infringement on their rights. I fear that Bloomberg's ultimate vision is to turn it into a soulless, oppressive corporate hellhole like Singapore or Dubai.
