Along with the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero, the Occupy Wall Street protest at Zuccotti Park is becoming a major tourist destination reports the New York Times.
Travelers are going there out of both morbid curiosity and genuine support. And that’s good news. But it also makes it that more important for demonstrators to not turn the movement into a freak show, like some of the people I observed down there on Sunday were doing.
There’s no need to make an already uphill battle that much harder to climb. Now might be the time to tone it down a bit, so no zombies, although to be fair, that is what attracted the media in the first place. (Photos: ANIMALNewYork)

who cares if it turns into a freak show?
This guy (in the gas mask) is called Benny Zable. He is from Nimbin, a small town in Northern New South Wales, Australia where I also live. He's intelligent, articulate, probably right about most things, and (I'm almost certain) completely unaware that most people would find his costume confronting in any way other than forcing them to "confront" the ugly truths around global finances. IMHO, in the protest movement generally, a little awareness that appearances can distract from your message would go a long way.
we do so love pretty packages, wrapped in a neat and tidy bow…this gift is not so pretty but when opened may save lives.
