Begging for change on Houston Street nude, browsing books at the NYU Library nude, buying a street hot dog nude – photographer Erica Simone created this series of self-portraits exposing herself all over New York City doing typical New York City things. Her philosophy? “Just being.” Her technique? Well, that’s kind of obvious. Her shockingly nonchalant approach and the ability to take self-portraits (with a timer?) while riding nude on a motorcycle through Tribeca? Impressive.
UPDATE: ANIMAL asked Erica Simone how the hell she pulled it off. Her answer:
I haven’t come too close [to being arrested], besides the Central Park shot which I won’t discuss too much about. And also the man on the Harley is an ex-police officer, but he was very excited to do the shot with me, I had met him 5 minutes before doing it. I use a remote control shutter release – I’m always the one triggering the shot. Some more details… Well, I can tell you, each photo has a totally different story. Most are done very guerilla-style, I don’t tell anyone around me what I’m going to do, although in some circumstances I’ve had to, if it would make the photo better… It all depends. The key to each shot is definitely timing and I can sometimes wait 30 min – 1hr to take a certain shot. But most of the time, I’m in and out, naked and dressed in a blink of an eye.

like Ioann said above, if this was a normal everyday woman, with all their nooks and crannies, or even what is considered full sized or larger, i guarantee they would have been arrested. how the police didnt get involved is beyond me…. indecent exposure…… i get the whole "just being" idea, but lets say a man were to do this!!!!! guarantee he wouldnt make it a few seconds without the police swarming. the fact that she is a "hot" woman is the only way this happened, and yes to be honest the photos are not all that interesting. maybe the one in the library, or the one on the street with the few guys, maybe have something, but not that interesting… the others like the little italy barbershop; other than exemplifying a nice body with the side shot, there isnt much to the pictures.

i guess everyone is missing the part that states these are self portraits… so what if the concept of the photo isnt the most original. and who care about the fact that shes attractive or not- the point is she stripped her clothes, set the camera on a timer or controlled it by remote, and got several crisp, casual looking photos in situations that would otherwise pose difficulty. especially the motorcycle pic and subway pic. no people breaking their character despite the young nude girl in their presence.
i say, give credit where its due. her technique and skill should be applauded.
It doesn't take skill to have someone take a self portrait of yourself nude. You can see this everyday on utube. And can you please point out the technique…. I totally agree with most others who posted, had this been a Man or a women with imperfections they would have been arrested trying to do as she had done. I see know originality in the Photo's at all. Only a pretty woman being an exhibitionist.

I really admire Erica for her courage to go nude on the streets of New York City. Alot of people appreciate a sexy naked lady. Erica is just expressing her freedom in her photos to go nude on the streets and express her desire to do her daily activities in the the nude. I see nothing wrong with Erica wanting to express the desire to be naked on the street. This is all about wanting to feel free and to enjoy life at its best. I hope she keeps up the good work and allow her to have fun with her body.

In a better world,photos like this would be much more common. Every time someone has the nerve to create a project like this,it makes the world just a little less prudish and intolerant. I also love how mediocre artist resort to nudity or controversy, when all else fails. I fully understand that Art, along with worth, is in the eye of the beholder, but unless your style has always involved nudity, has a message, is thought provoking, or revolutionary, nudity is a desparate and cheap gimmick.

If you look at her website (http://www.ericasimone.com/), she is actually a very accomplished and talented photographer. Hate stems from jealousy and regardless of her body, it still takes bravery to show yourself in such a vulnerable light.
I'm sure the fact that she looks good naked has nothing to do with the attention this gets. These photos say nothing artistically beyond "I look good naked." If she weren't conventionally sexy, there might at least be some interesting content about societal norms, but as it is these are worthless.
I don't think she is trying to simply show someone doing everyday activities in the nude…I think she is making a statement about how self-focused Americans are. That a beautiful, nude woman can be on the street right in front of them and no one even looks up from their hustle and bustle to notice or care.
