In what has to be some of the more remarkable OWS-related news to come out in recent days, both local police and state troopers defied an order from Albany mayor Gerald Jennings—at the urgings of Governor Cuomo—to move in and arrest protesters en masse for violating a curfew order.
Like their downstate brethren, Occupy Albany has set up camp in a park with tents in violation of the law, but according to an official, it made more sense to deescalate the situation: “We don’t have those resources, and these people were not causing trouble. The bottom line is the police know policing, not the governor and not the mayor.” The NYPD could learn a lot from these guys. (Photo: Sébastien Barré/flickr)
