Brooklyn-based, Bologna-born artist Federico Solmi is under fire in Ancona, Italy for his upcoming exhibit featuring an animated, porn-addicted, bloody pervert Pope of Vatic-Anal-City. The exhibition space hosting Solmi’s June-July art show will be welcoming the real Pope Benedict XVI in September for the grand Catholic hoopla of the Eucharistic Congress… in the same room. Uh-oh.
The organizers insist that this is purely “coincidental.” Meanwhile, the artist is being bombarded with wrath in blogs and newspapers and feels it’s “dangerous” for him to be in Ancona. He blames the fracas on the cultural shift in Italy and the surge in Islamophobic anti-immigration sentiments in Europe that has Italians “so attached to the cross.”
