Pre-School Vandals Inviting Lawlessness

Just like in NYC, enforcement of Australia’s aggressive anti-graffiti laws has led to unbridled absurdity. A couple operating a cafe in a Melbourne suburb that allows toddlers to draw with chalk on the sidewalk out front, was told by the city council to cease the illegal activity immediately after a resident complained. They claimed it was the the equivalent of letting them tag up the place, thereby destroying the fabric of civil society and paving the way for more illegality.

When told they could no longer doodle, the kids began to cry, motivating the cafe’s owners to challenge the ordinance and so they started a petition, which local parents have been more than happy to support.

Ellis G. may have just found his next opportunity for a lawsuit.
