We were gratuitously forgiving with big deal painter Richard Phillips and his first “short film” with Lindsay Lohan. He made another one with retired pornstar Sasha Grey. It’s a subtle mood piece shallow snoozefest.
For my film portrait of Sasha Grey, I wanted to focus on her expressive and psychological transformation into a cinematic actor, separate from the cues that have associated Sasha with her previous career as a performance artist working within the adult film world.
Sasha, dressed by Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction costume designer Ellen Mirojnick, schleps around Mulholland Drive and stares wistfully regretfully emotionlessly into the San Fernando Valley Land o’ Porn, film site of art/”art” oodles more dynamic than this video. Nothing happens in this video. Nothing.
If you’re so inclined, see Richard Phillips’s Sasha Grey in “Commercial Break,” Group show presented by the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Jun 1 – Jun 5, Venice (Concurrent with Biennale di Venezia).
