Last year, Congress voted to reduce the federal sentencing guidelines for crack-related offenses and bring them a little bit more inline with the penalties for powdered cocaine. But how about all those inmates currently in prison? Thankfully, a governmental body known as the U.S. Sentencing Commission moved to apply the law retroactively.
Not surprisingly, some of the politicians who crafted the law are really pissed about this decision. They apparently had no intentions of interrupting current injustices. The ruling is expected to effect 12,000 or so inmates and surprise, surprise, 75% of them are black.

How is harsher sentencing for Crack racist? Seems racist to assume that only blacks smoke and sell crack. Why are more blacks in jail for it? Drive through Harlem at 2am and then a white neighborhood. Tell me which one has people openly servn’ out in the open. There’s your answer. If whites were on the corner selling it, they’d get arrested too.
Crack and powdered cocaine is the same substance and should carry the same sentences period.
Again:

You didn't bother clicking the links did you. From the New York Times: "The sentencing disparity was enormous: penalties for crack under a 1986 drug law had been commonly referred to as 100 times greater than those for powder cocaine; the new rules brought the disparity to 18 to 1." Since crack was more of an urban epidemic than a suburban one, a larger percentage of black people have been given longer sentences compared to white people caught with powdered cocaine, which is the same substance. Shouldn't the sentences be equal?
I clicked the link and I don’t think it makes it any more true or false because it clicks through to another opinion. It still does not make it racist.
That’s like saying harsher sentencing for carrying an AK-47 assault rifle vs a 22. Rifle is racist. Essentially a gun is a gun. But is one a little more lethal than the other? Only an idiot would say no. But wait! There are more AK’s in the hood so its racist! And the population in the hood of black people is higher… So it has to be racist! Yeah right. Its faulty logic run backwards from a conspiracy theorist paradigm.
Wrong again and talk about flawed logic. But at this point, if you don't get it, you never will. Perhaps this will help, but I HIGHLY doubt it. http://www.aclu.org/drug-law-reform/cracks-system…
You keep flip flopping on what we are discussing.
"wrong again". lol. That doesn't even make sense.
You flip flop like a fish when ever your argument loses its water.
We discuss if it is racist – you jump to equal sentencing based on substance base.
We discuss if it is equal substance regardless of base- you jump back over to racism paranoia.
Learn to stand your ground.
BTW I can post a link from a church that states God created the Universe in 7 days. That doesn't necessarily make it so.
Dude. Click the link, download the PDF, read the facts. How I've let this even go this far is embarrassing. The laws were definitely racist and are now slightly less so. This is not opinion, this is fact. READ, it makes things so much more interesting.
