A Las Vegas art gallery is in hot water over their exhibition featuring the art, letters and audiotapes of John Wayne Gacy a.k.a. Pogo the Clown who tortured and murdered 33 young boys and men and buried them in his crawlspace.

The gallery’s outsider art exhibit features 70 works Pogo painted in jail, priced $2K-$15K, mostly of clowns, but also of Jesus, Elvis, Ed Gein, Al Capone, cherry blossoms and Disney dwarfs. The gallery promised to donate the show’s proceeds to the National Center for Victims of Crime, without asking the organization first. A rep stated that the NCVC never agreed to this and refused the money for ethical reasons.

“Serial killer art” is “outsider art” and has its sociological merits. There really was no reason to dress up the morbid, exploitative show in moral drag. “Multiples,” outsider and prisoner art exhibition and lecture series, May 16 – Mat 25, Sin City Gallery, Las Vegas
