In 1987, two San Francisco punks moved into a shitty apartment next door to drunks and began recording their vicious squabbles. The tapes became an early “viral” phenomena. Now, the doc film Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure opens at NYC’s IFC on Sep 16.
A true cohabiting odd couple — “a raging homophobe and a flamboyant homosexual” — they terrorized their neighbors with death threats, kept the police busy with constant clamor and violence, and entertained a generation of underground tape nerds with their witty, mutually sadistic banter… which was truly something. If the trailer and the red band clip below isn’t enough, head over to this audio archive of “Old Men Fighting” and peruse such classic sound bites as “this time I attack” and “you always giggle falsely.”
