Staten Island, which today enjoys its 350th birthday, has good reason to celebrate. S.I.’s very own Midland Beach was named the best beach in New York by an organization called New Yorkers For Parks in their annual report.
But in typical ultra-tragic Staten Island fashion, another Staten Island beach — Wolfe’s Pond Beach, was voted to be the worst beach in New York.
Everyone’s fan favorite, Coney Island landed in the middle of the pack because of a “lack of adequate supplies” in the beach’s bathrooms. All of the beaches had problems with their bathrooms and also had trash on their shorelines. Funny how the cigarette ban was supposed to protect the health of children, but little tykes can still step on glass bottles in the sand and not have any soap to wash their hands with.
