The New York Post knows no bounds in their war against bike lanes and the people that use them, but not even we expected them to bring victims of the World Trade Center attacks into the debate. However, as noted by Streetsblog, the tabloid did exactly that and for their latest propaganda piece, “plays the 9/11 card” in arguing against the development of the Battery Park Bikeway.
The tabloid is apparently upset that the WTC’s iconic ‘Sphere’ would be relocated along with other monuments as part of the Parks Department’s redevelopment plan, that includes a crucial bike lane connecting the Hudson River Park Bikeway and the East River Esplanade. Oh the horror. Even if you disagree vehemently with the Post, you have to hand it to them for being so committed. On the upside: At least they didn’t call it the Ground Zero Bike Lane.
