With the popularity of the Highline and East River Waterfront, a few of the cities parks have gone unnoticed but that’s about to change. The group Architecture for Humanity has recently secured a grant to initiate an ideas competition for Coleman Oval Park, located under the Manhattan Bridge.

Now, with six New York City based architecture firms competing to develop and present ideas for a new Coleman Oval Park, the former graveyard site, which over the years has suffered a lot of neglect, is looking at a resurrection.

So far, at least one of the proposals has been revealed. HAO (Holm Architecture Office) has plans to turn the park into a multi-use skate park, complete with ramps that would then be easily converted into an outdoor movie or concert venue. The proposal also makes use of the bridge columns, turning them into works of art curated by local artists and organizations.
