Lee Mingwei’s new installation opens today at the Brooklyn Museum: Essentially, a hundred freshly severed botanical genitalia will be poised “growing” out of a granite crack. You are to snag one on the way out, take a detour and stick it to a stranger. It’s romantical.

Now and through January 22nd, The Moving Garden will provide a hundred of festive plant carcasses to visitors daily, as inspired by the Lewis Hyde’s The Gift: Imagination and the Erotic Life of Property, a difficult little treatise on gift-giving and open-hearted exchange in art, supposedly laden with non-traditional uses of the words “erotic” and “copulative.” Misleadingly so. But hey, who knows where said gift-giving will lead? Have some hope!
