This immaculate stop-motion animation Mound from artist Allison Schulnik is increasingly frightening, in a good way. See plasticine creatures melt in the face, ripple in the skin, undulate, change hue, dance like witches, grow giant mouths and swallow each other and then there are some mushrooms. Hint?
This is her sixth and most complex animated film. She likes “hobo clowns, misshapen animals and alien beasts” and blending “earthly fact, blatant fiction and lots of oil” and we like her. She’s currently exhibiting at NYC’s ZieherSmith gallery through December 17th.
