Photographer Josh Dehonney tells ANIMAL that his entire 2011 Vacant series was shot within a 10-mile radius of his residence in Hamilton, New Jersey and there are a lot more eerie, empty commercial properties in the area. There are no cars at the Chevy dealership. They’re no diners at that all American diner.
Some real estate has that olde, been-busted a long time look, but other looks deserted like a budget set an end of the world genre flick, sans zombies. Witness the sadness…

It is a shame to see so many vacant buildings – lets hope the economy rebounds quickly! The images captured by the photographer show an interesting perspective on the buildings. Great Job!
Nice collection, I'm a big fan of the Jersey Diners myself… there's a lot of great photography of the ruins of detroit out there, maybe a field trip is in order…
Josh,
I love the Vacant collection. Such sad and poignant images. It makes me want to buy one of these diners and create a destination restaurant. But, of course that doesn't even begin to address the real problems. Thanks for capturing these images so beautifully. This was also a good opportunity to jump over to your website to see your newest work. Wonderful!
Josh told me about these lots and buildings, but until I saw them myself I couldn't imagine it. We are so lucky in Canada (so far!) to have escaped some this disaster. Hopefully it will be a lesson well learned – live below your means & don't go into debt. Buy what you need, not want you want. Support small & local business's and restaurants.
I'm glad someone's documenting this… the future generation will have no idea what it was like.
cool work Josh, is really very sad to see how things fall apart over time and a shame to see it happen. very nice to have those records… a big hug from Brasil.
The Photography totally captures the aura of the area. I hope the images signify an ending to the hopeless economy. Great job.
I'm from this area. Half of those buildings aren't vacant. The photographer must have just took photos when they're not open.
