At a gamer’s conference in San Francisco last week, Pac-Man’s father, Toru Iwatani, dished some details on the iconic cult classic he birthed more than 30 years ago. According to him, the game was originally developed to attract more females and break up the sausage party atmosphere that defined arcades. He also revealed the origin of the name. It was originally called Puck-Man, but Midway Games changed it to Pac-Man for fear that troublemakers would vandalize the “P” and turn into a “F.”
