Works by the legendary Robert Crumb, Juxtapoz Magazine founder and Whitney Biennial artist Robert Williams, the Grateful Dead attaché Rick Griffin and other contributors of Zap Comix are now on view at the Edlin Gallery. Since the ’60s, Zap pushed “the legal boundaries of free expression” and appealed to “anti-war, anti-pollution, pro-drug, back-to-nature” hippies, then smacked them down with counter-culture critique and existential inquisition.
