Looks familiar? Spanish intervention artists Luzinterruptus recently went to Melbourne for the Light in Winter festival and covered a large strip of Federation Square with 10,000 books outfitted with little light bulbs. Just like they did in New York that one time. In the installation Literature vs Traffic, books conquer the streets. For thirty days, Melburnians picked at and sifted through the unwanted books donated by libraries, sprawled about the streets in meticulous formations, dominating the space, pwning traffic. It’s enchanting. Just look at them frolicking. That one girl is literally swimming under a pile of old books. The child in you is going eeeeee, twinkly. The New Yorker in you is going eeeeeew, bedbugs.
