As far as snow goes, 2012 sucked. Using “data collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Terra satellite,” the space agency compared two snow cover maps of North America. The top image is from March 3, 2011, the bottom from March 5, 2012. Notice all the dry patches for this year and how much more definable the state of New York was in 2011 when it was fully covered in white. (Image: NASA/flickr)
