Student photographer Alena Zhandarova’s hometown Ivanovo is full of women. Many, many women that she’s recruited from social network for the portrait series. Zhandarova adds an absurdist touch to every portrait, sprinkling their bare breasts with flower, slapping a dried fish on their forehead, having the gals gnaw nonchalantly on their braids.
The point is, here they are in the “city of brides,” “in waiting” per se. She works to capture their innocence, to create a new identity by posing them with the misc contents of their apartments, by spending some time with them first until things get very comfortable and a little weird. Also, all her subjects are very pretty. ‘Cause you know, that helps.
