Photographer Jocelyn Allen took one self-portrait a day for a year, April 2011 – April 2012, layering each shot on top of the other, lining it up to the eye and letting the rest mellow out into a haze. Why the eye? “My right eye was the one element of my face that appeared consistent every time.” Does the rest really seem all that different? Visually, The Many Faces of JFA is striking, especially when you consider that an entire year is compacted into a singular image, each subtle shadowy detail is a slice of time… or are we really looking at one very deadpan lady?
