Street artist ABOVE was allowed to paint the exterior walls of Johannesburg’s Jewel City center, hosting 300 diamond traders. The owners loved his proposed slogan “Diamonds Are a Woman’s Best Friend…”
Naturally, ABOVE wasn’t there to advertise but to bring awareness to Africa’s blood diamonds — mined in conflict areas and funding warfare. So, ABOVE finished off the slogan with “…And a Man’s Worst Enemy.”
“I assume the owners were too busy trading diamonds inside the mega centre they never took the time to come out and see I was painting a controversial word play about the diamond trade and how it’s fueled so much bloodshed in wars making it one of man’s worst enemies.”
Sneaky, sneaky! Now ignore the accidental gender politics and get that song out of your head.
