Here’s your afternoon dose of good vibes. Skateistan is empowering Afghanistan’s young girls by teaching them how to skate, and, giving them a little reading-and-writing education while they’re at it. Watch this adorable video of a bunch of schoolgirls in Kabul zip around an indoor skate park, taking ramps and half-pipes like they’re nothing. If Bones Brigade are the origins of skating, then these girls are the future of the sport. Skateistan is the coolest non-profit I’ve encountered. Here’s a Skateistan volunteer skating in front of the Buddhas of Bamiyan, which the Taliban destroyed in 2001, transforming a site of tragedy into a site of empowerment.
I mean, talk about a cause we can all believe in.
This is the coolest thing I've seen in at least 10 years. Thx! -Hank
nice, those are the future mothers of the terrorists who will kill us. And how quaint they're skating in front of the hole where a giant buddha, destroyed by the taliban, used to be. It's like a treat, I tell you.
oh hai racist
