While Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s official photographer Hassan Golkanbhan was in New York, he decided to defect. According to official reports Golkanbhan applied for asylum during Ahmadinejad’s UN General Assembly address in New York, which certainly didn’t go unnoticed thanks to the outraged public last week.
No specific details are known for why Golkanbhan has fled Iran and his New York City-based attorney Paul O’Dwyer is being sufficiently vague in light of some (nuclear) tensions between America and Iran.
“He’s perceived as not being a supporter, or being an opponent of the Iranian regime,” O’Dwyer said. “Somebody who has betrayed the regime and who can no longer be trusted by them.” You don’t say, Mr.O’Dwyer ? How often have you heard of anyone being content with a life in any place described as being under someone’s regime?
Golkanbhan’s family has also reportedly fled from Iran. Does anything about this story sound familiar to you?
