“It’s a kind of reinterpreted-gazebo-meets-bandshell,” says architect David Rockwell of the arts pavilion he’s designed for Southampton Village. Southampton Center is the Hampton’s newest cultural center, set to take the former site of the Parrish Art Museum. The design will be officially unveiled today for the Southampton Village Board of Trustees. Plans are in place for the Southampton Center to open summer 2013.
“We expect Southampton Center to become a widely popular, year-round destination,” Southampton Village mayor Mark Epley told reporters. The design is an open-air structure which will serve as an ice rink in the summer. The space includes an elevated stage and seating for performances. “The goal was to create as flexible a place as possible,” said Rockwell. Great. Have fun, guys. I’ll probably be cooling my heels in a kiddie pool with Hot 97 next summer.
