We’ve seen a major influx of technology-driven art in 2012, from motion-capture video sculptures and XBox Kinect Art to 3D vinyl records. At ArtFutura 2012, there’s lots more. Each year, intellectuals and academics are invited to comment on the consequences of an increasingly digitalized society. Some highlights from their inaugural festival in 1990 included an appearance by Timothy Leary and an early prototype for a virtual reality helmet.
This year, the festival will feature Nobel Physics Prize winner Paul Friedlander, who describes himself as a “scientific artists and light sculptor.” The free event is currently going on at the Museo de las Migraciones in Montevideo, Uruguay.
