Brooklyn artist MOODY’s Absolute Addict work was stolen rom its outdoor display at the Woodward Gallery on Eldridge Street Tuesday night. The thief was caught on surveillance video and is being investigated by the NYPD for grand larceny, but merciful MOODY says, “I really don’t want to see anyone get into trouble.” He would however like to get his piece back.
Owner Kristine Woodward says, “We don’t want to place Plexiglas over the whole work or additional security at the site.” It’s not like this was some sort of a complicated heist with intrigue and disguises or a sly, systematic plundering of high-profile exhibits. The dude just unscrewed the Plexiglas corners securing the piece and lugged it away, just as a passerby wanders by.
The gallery is now offering a $500 reward for information leading to the rescue of the $5K-$6K work.
