Swiss artist Christoph Buchel has just gotten his conditional permit approved to bury a Boeing 727 underground, 38 feet below the Kern County, a few hours North of Los Angeles. Financing the entire project himself, the artist will only allow 15 people per week to take a tunnel and come inside, so pffft.
Dubbed the Terminal, the plane will be gutted of all dangerous, fuel-related bits and be outfitted with the necessary electricals, plumbing, and ventilation. Above, camouflaged, faux-pristine land. Below, a buried plane, a claustrophobic’s nightmare. Between, some tunnels that only 780 per year will traverse. Ooh, exclusive.
