Late Friday night, my new favorite person drunkenly entered a bed-and-breakfast in Canaan, New York, picked up the official switchboard, dialed the numbers of several rooms, lit a “smoky fire” in the lobby fireplace, and left. Sounds to me like Jason Bennett, the 38-year old Greenfield resident, was just trying to give a quick hello and spread some holiday cheer, but for some reason state police saw it fit to arrest him for criminal trespass.
An Associated Press report makes no mention of what Bennett said if and when any of the B-and-B’s guests picked up his hospitality calls, but I’d like to think he was probably politely informing them of the warm fire he’d started downstairs and inviting them to join.
Happy Holidays, Mr. Bennett. Best of luck in your trial.
