Smarmy political pundit Bill Maher is really upset with SOPA, but not because of the dire ramifications it would have on free speech or the unbridled power it gives the government. He’s pissed about all the money his Religulous film allegedly lost to piracy, despite generating over $20 million in box office and DVD sales.
That puts it at #12 on a list of the highest grossing documentaries of all time. But what is most offensive about Maher’s show of support for SOPA, is that he didn’t even bother to read the legislation, a criticism the comedian typically levies against the politicians he so often rants about. His exact words:
“Now I know that they’re saying that apparently this bill would somehow infringe on free speech. I haven’t read the bill, I don’t know, I don’t know if anybody who has even read the bill can predict that, but it seems like it might be a red herring, because people just want to steal.”
Wow. UPDATE: We started a petition asking Bill Maher (or one of his interns) to read SOPA!

Bill likes to smoke a lot of weed. I once worked on a college comedy tour with him and he put a new meaning to the phrase green room. Chances are he was high as a kite when he said this. I am sure that animal would understand.
Or maybe he's just someone who has a lot invested in the IP system (since its made him a multi millionaire) so he's defending it.
I was surprised to hear his stance on sopa to say the least. As wrong i i think he is on sopa, he is spot on about damn near everything else. Love his show , loved Religulous.
If I didn't illegally download his show I'd probably stop watching it because of this.
I'm an Atheist, and I personally think Bill is a pretentious asshole. Religulous was a terrible documentary, it made Atheists look like douche nozzles.This sack of shit only became well known due to the dozens of PIRATED clips of Real Time circulating on various video sites.

watch the entire clip he is not supporting the entire legislation rather making note that it is fundamentally wrong to be completely against it and hes right ! its asking people to stop stealing sure it goes about it completely wrong and i am totally against that but at its core the sopa act is just a push for people to stop stealing so to criticize him for his view on it is wrong. fuck off and good day assholes
