Familiar-looking geometric hive, isn’t it? It’s New York à la Keith Haring meets Piet Mondrian meets Google Earth. Chinese painter Lu Xinjian riffs of Google Earth shots of major metropolises to sketch into designs, which he turns into stencils with Illustrator to paint the City DNA in acrylics. The colors are chosen from the official city and national flags. Also available in circular winding Moscow, packed and teeming Kyoto, seemingly senseless Venice and more. And now back to the NY grid. Ahh. Comforting.
