Super 8 makes everything look nice, I know, but it’s hard not to feel your heart flutter at Ethan Schwartz’s documentation of his French cousins’ first visit to New York. Pigeons take on a cinematic grandeur, the R train looks like a movie star. The Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station: familiar attractions take on an otherworldly timelessness in the black and white snapshot of the city. Not even the tourists’ digital cameras can ruin the vintage effect. (And it doesn’t hurt that his cousin is a total babe.)
