“The theater in Elizabethan England was the closest thing they had to the internet,” says John Hurley, leader of Park Slope’s Ready, Set, Go Theate Company. “That’s where you went to meet people, learn, be entertained, cry, laugh. It all took place in the theater.” Beginning today, Hurley and the rest of his company are making that comparison literal by airing Shakespeare’s Othello as a series of 12 web-only episodes. In an effort to make The Bard’s classic work more accessible to attention-drained modern audiences, each webisode will run under 10 minutes.

The series was filmed around Manhattan and Brooklyn, with actors wearing regular street clothes instead of elaborate period costumes. Check out the trailer above, and watch the series at the company’s site.
