Dick Zigun, owner of Sideshows by the Seashore, founder of non-profit Coney Island USA, and inventor of the Mermaid Parade, is often referred to as the “unofficial mayor of Coney Island.” Last week, Zigun was hospitalized for an injury he incurred while stooping over to reach for a bottle of seltzer at the Coney Island USA headquarters, and now, he’s looking to his Twitter followers to help pay his medical bills. “If you’re kind enough to help me with my sudden medical bills,” he tweeted after being hospitalized, “I’m offering some cool Coney souvenirs for $20 donations.” Zigun swears alcohol didn’t play a role in the accident.
Those cool $20 souvenirs? They’re vintage Coney Island postcards. And as Brooklyn Paper points out, “a postcard of the old Dreamland amusement park is currently on sale on Coney Island USA’s website for $1.” Kind souls can head here to donate.
