Police officers discovered a live homemade grenade in the trunk of a car during a routine traffic stop in Le Roy, New York this morning, evacuating homes within 200 feet of the vehicle and closing several roads. The officer who made the stop is a former marine, and instantly recognized the explosive and called bomb investigators, according to a police spokesperson. In addition to the grenade, a “long gun,” which officers said appeared to be modified, was found in the vehicle’s trunk alongside several rounds of ammo.

No charges have been filed so far. According to Le Roy police, federal agents have been contacted, and the suspect may face a federal investigation.
