Crowdsourced Internet Generosity Is Pretty Awesome

In case you haven’t been trolling the internetz like us, a video surfaced the other day of an elderly bus monitor getting mercilessly picked on by a trove of middle school bullies from the Greece Central School District in Rochester, New York. It’s received nearly 2 million views in two days.

Karen Klein drove a school bus for 20 years but is now a bus monitor. She’s chillin on the bus, and in the video the kids surrounding her say terrible things such as “you’re so fuckin poor you fat ass” among other insults. One insanely atrocious comment poked fun at Klein’s son’s suicide ten years ago. “You don’t have a family because they all killed themselves because they didn’t want to be near you,” said one asshole.

“I’m crying,” said Karen in the video, with tears streaming down her face. “Unless you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

But this time, internet justice came through! Random internet user Max Sidorov started the initial IndieGogo campaign saying “Lets Give Karen – The bus monitor – Klein A Vacation!”. Yesterday it reached the goal of $5,000. Today it’s at $200,000. Go internet! Go internet!

Here’s the sad video.
