As beautiful as the views are and as smooth as the bike path is, cycling over the Brooklyn Bridge during the daytime blows and that’s primarily because pedestrians suck. They’re notorious for waltzing into the bike lane which is only separated from the rest of the foot traffic by a thinly painted strip. Adding insult to injury, literally, the iconic span is almost always occupied by clueless tourists who are also prone to wander aimlessly into the path of oncoming cyclists, sometimes just to pose for pictures. That’s the bad news. The good news is that the elected officials are finally starting to take notice and have suggested a major expansion plan to accommodate the steady increase of non-vehicular traffic.
