As seen in the current issue of Photoworks Magazine, this is project “Fatescapes.” Visual artist Pavel Maria Smejkal has digitally altered famous photographs, carefully cutting away the subjects captured in a historical moment of terror or triumph, but mostly, terror. And napalm. And tanks. Growing up in Communist Czechoslovakia, Pavel’s lived through the Soviet invasion of 1968 — and the Soviets would know something about making comrades disappear… in photographs.
