While many rappers will often exaggerate about their criminal lifestyle, others are quite candid about it. Judging from his FBI file, the late great Ol’ Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan belongs to the latter group. Through a Freedom of Information Act request, a website called Gun.io got hold of the 94-page document that contains lots of sordid details about the hip hip icon. Much of the information was provided by NYPD detectives who often worked jointly with the feds.
According to one police report from 1999, the WU is “heavily involved in the sale of drugs, illegal guns, weapons possession, murder, car jacking, and other types of violent crimes.” That would probably include getting into a shoot out with cops, which another dispatch alleges. Although ODB was charged with murder, a jury wasn’t buying it and he was exonerated.
The file also touches on the so-called organization of the group and makes this claim: “Once individuals have proved themselves as good and loyal members or associates of the WTC they are offered record contracts to record Rap type music.” Wouldn’t that be like taking a demotion?
