For many in the city, the transit nightmare that was the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy is but a speck on the rearview mirror. But for a select few, it’s still a reality, and likely still a tremendous pain in the ass. Among those affected are the South Brooklynites and Financial District workers who rely on the R train to get around and can’t easily substitute the N or the Q, but according to the MTA, that should change by this Friday.

The R train has been running almost in full from the storm, in two separate sections running from Forest Hills to Whitehall Street and Jay Street to Bay Ridge-95th Street. But the missing section–the East River tunnel that ferries straphangers from Manhattan to Brooklyn and back, is crucial.

Now, all the MTA has to do is open the South Ferry stop and get the Rockaways back on track.
