Josh Fox’s 2010 documentary Gasland brought the issue of hydraulic fracturing aka “fracking” in the global spotlight. In his new short The Sky Is Pink, Fox compares the campaign of disinformation waged by the gas industry to that of Big Tobacco and climate change.
Like Big Tobacco knew their cigarettes caused cancer and sat on the information, Fox says that the gas industry knows that fracking is causing significant and irreparable damage to aquifers. “The gas industry has memos in their drawers….They have no way of completely fixing of preventing the problem.”
In this video, Fox directly addresses Governor Cuomo and the information he chooses to look at.
The Sky Is Pink details the shocking campaign of misinformation perpetuated by the gas industry, their flagrant disregard for the health and safety of the communities they ravage, and the historic decision that Governor Cuomo is about to make.
Yesterday, New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver passed a bill that would require a New York State public university to “conduct a comprehensive health impact assessment following a model recommended by the [C]enters for [D]isease [C]ontrol and [P]revention to examine potential public health impacts that could be caused by the extraction of natural gas using horizontal drilling and high-volume hydraulic fracturing.”
