“Order and justice don’t always go hand in hand.”
With eerie timing, The Law In These Parts opens tonight at Film Forum in Manhattan. Winner of Best Documentary Award at the Sundance and Jerusalem Film Festivals, the film directed by Ra’anan Alexandrowicz is an investigation of the oppressive legal structure imposed by the Israeli government and enforced by military in the occupied territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. For the first time ever, lawyers and judges from Israel — “the men who helped to craft and later interpret these laws” — are asked “the tough questions” and asked to “consider the consequences” and the humanity “of their actions in a highly politicized environment.”
See the screening with filmmaker Ra’anan Alexandrowicz in person Nov 14 at 8:00pm, Nov 17 at 6:00pm, Nov 18 at 3:15pm.
