As Mitt Romney demonstratively schemes to destroy the National Endowment for the Arts, 19 big-time artists teamed up for an Obama benefit portfolio — John Baldessari, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Bruce Nauman, Claes Odenburg, Chris Burden, Frank Gehry, Jasper Johns, James Rosenquist and more. Dream team!

Fancy or struggling, the artist community is very much invested in this election. A recent L Magazine profile that puts Romney’s hard-on for cutting all arts into political perspective, like the fact that it will mostly affect urban centers where artists live, urban centers that vote Democrat, hence spiting his enemies — among other purely strategic details that paint a bleak picture, if Romney gets elected.

The star-studded “Artists for Obama” portfolios will be unveiled on Sep. 13 and will be available for a $28,000 donation to the campaign. With 150 portfolios for sale, there’s $4.2 million to make. Hefty. But then compare that to one George Clooney pro-Obama shin-ding that brings in $15 million. Damn, GC.
