Kaws is the next artist up to lend his design to the giant floating balloons of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After Jeff Koons’ metallic bunny and Takashi Murakami’s psychedelic kawaii critter duo, this one’s continuing the organizers’ tradition of picking art that already looks like cartoons. Only, it’s dead.
Here’s his design, dubbed “the Companion” and referencing Rodin’s “The Thinker.” It’s a Mickey Mouse-y type (note his classic ‘toon pants buttons) with X’s on his hands/eyes, as per always. This enamored New York Times article refers to it as “lovable”. It’s not mentioning that it’s dead.
