As always, we’re keeping an eye on the Bowery wall. Looks like Aiko has made some serious headway since starting last Friday night–all contrast, dashed silhouettes and luscious lips, pow pow. At first, it was a bit odd to watch her spray on those bare, virgin stencils, but the mural has definitely gained in complexity.
Previously, we’ve seen calligraphics by Los Angeles’ RETNA, a torn-up wheatpaste collage from the Brooklyn duo FAILE, some squinting monochrome from French street artist JR, signature cartoon faces from big time Kenny Scharf repeatedly bombed by REMO and company, TWIST, AMAZE and crew’s tag wall, Shepard Fairey’s utterly, totally destroyed mural, a beautiful psychedelic vision from the Brazilian Os Gêmeos brothers and a whitewashing of a Keith Haring tribute.
The Japanese-born Brooklyn-based street artist is the first woman to work at this hotspot. I was told on site that Aiko has to finish on Friday. Full visuals await! (Photo: Marina Galperina/ANIMALNewYork)
