Earlier this week, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro made some pigheaded comments about NYC-native pop superstar Lady Gaga, calling her a “slut” for toking up onstage at a show in Amsterdam. A host of high-profile New Yorkers responded, not least of which was Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer. “In addition to her artistic pursuits,” said Stringer, Gaga “is a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country.”

Gaga herself entered the fray via Twitter today, thanking Stringer for his defense, without calling out Molinaro by name, tweeting, “To @scottstringer of Manhattan, thanku for your support of my activism as a new yorker. You show political integrity + a modern vernacular.”
